Bay Grape is a wine shop focused on community. In addition to wine, we also offer beer, specialty sodas and a small retail selection of local, artisanal foodstuffs. We also host winemaker-led tastings and casual, relaxed wine classes. And we specialize in custom bulk orders!
We strive to be a cornerstone of our community: a physical gathering spot dedicated to building and preserving relationships with and between our guests. On that note, you can purchase bottles to take to go, or you can open any bottle in the shop, learn a bit about it and enjoy it with friends or neighbors for just $5 corkage on top of retail price. Our snacks can also be opened and enjoyed picnic-style at our communal table or counter area.
Bay Grape is owned and operated by Josiah Baldivino and Stevie Stacionis: a young, passionate, husband-and-wife team with substantial wine knowledge, 20 years of combined wine business experience—and, most importantly, a sense of humor and humility. Our team includes five Certified or Advanced Sommeliers accredited through the Court of Master Sommeliers... we know our stuff and are confident in helping you pick a great bottle, but we leave our attitude at the door and hope our guests feel happy and at home in our space.
We believe in the power of sharing good beverages and food—and in their capacity to create opportunities for members of our community to share experiences, stories, skills and laughter. Come say hi!
Due to the nature of our liquor license, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate minors or children; guests must be 21 or older and present a bona fide ID. Service animals are permitted. Thank you for your understanding!
Josiah began his beverage career behind the bar while studying for his Bachelor’s degree in Business at Cal State University Northridge. As part of his studies, Josiah crafted his own wine business management internship at the popular wine retail shop Silverlake Wine in Los Angeles. Upon graduation, Josiah continued working for Silverlake Wine before taking his wine studies to New York City. There, he worked as a sommelier for the world-renowned Daniel Boulud group while he advanced through the Court of Master Sommeliers.
In 2011, Josiah moved to the Bay Area; shortly thereafter, he received his Advanced Sommelier Certification and was also named one of Wine & Spirits Best New Sommeliers. As lead sommelier at Michael Mina restaurant in San Francisco, Josiah received national acclaim in publications such as Wine Spectator, Wine & Spirits and Wine Enthusiast for the wine program he managed. He also grew support for our local wine community through his monthly “Hometown Hero” winery features. In addition to his work at Michael Mina, Josiah also worked with private clients to develop their personal cellars and produced A Drink with Friends TV.
