Recipe: Shaved Kohrabi and Arugula Salad with Chunky Garlic and Pimenton from Martha Stewart

Sweet, sweet kohlrabi! These bulbous and sweet veggies look awfully elegant when shaved and tossed with a few bitter arugula leaves to create a simple salad. To pair, we’re serving up a classic – tart and green Sauvignon Blanc from Menetou-Salon. For Sancerre lovers, this wine comes from just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Equipped with stony minerality, a tart limey backbone, and a flinty crispness, this wine might very well be your best discovery for the coming summer. The vines were planted in 1966 on Kimmeridgian limestone (like the stuff in Chablis!) and yield complex grapes as old vines do. Its greenness is a refreshing match for the sweet kohlrabi and that slightly bitter arugula. Pop a bottle open for hard-to-please friends and enjoy with your classy kohlrabi arugula salad.

When done right, pork tenderloin is not only impressive to behold, but also deliciously homely. Since it’s often warm out these days, a bold heavy red wine doesn’t seem fitting. Instead, we’re going for a thinner red skinned grape called Gamay. Even though Gamay is normally found in Beaujolais, this particular bottle comes from the fresh air and crystal clear waters of the French Alps. Winemaker Frederic Giachino is certified organic and biodynamic and adds no sulphur to his wines. This Gamay is herbaceous and rustic feeling, yet it is clean and even tasty for friends who aren’t all about the “natural wines” so popular these days. Take a hint from the musical mountaineers on the label – this bottle will get you yodeling with joy in no time.
