Recipe: Big Heart Artichoke and Parmesan Soup from Food and Wine
Pair with: La Marca di San Michele Capovolto Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi 2015 ($23)
Pucker up! It’s Verdicchio in all its mouthwatering citrusy glory! La Marca di San Michele is a team of three siblings who are making delicious wine from their small six hectares of vines. To ensure the best grapes, they harvest by hand up to three times so that the grapes are picked at perfect ripeness levels. The grapes go through a stainless steel fermentation and are bottled unfiltered. When you fix up this artichoke and Parmesan soup, you’ll be thirsting for this wine that’s as fresh as spring and refreshing as a swim in the ocean.
Recipe: Roasted Rack of Lamb with Strawberry from Food Wishes
Pair with: Terravignata Rosso Marche 2014 ($19)
Bust out the fancy silverware for lamb with strawberry sauce! For wine, this blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and a local grape called Lacrima does the trick. Borgo Pagliantetto is a winery tucked in a valley between the Matelica hills. Its bright red cherry acidity contrasts well with the sweetness of the strawberry sauce and compliments the gaminess of the rack of lamb. Taste closely and you might sense fresh roses are blooming somewhere around the corner!
Fun fact: Lacrima means “teardrop”. The grape is known to bleed a bit of juice when it is ripe!
