Seasonal Pairings: July 19, 2017

Here's how you whip up some starters with corn and eggplant for your summer chillin. To pair, we're featuring a Pecorino and a Tempranillo blend. Come by for a taste of both for just $10!

Recipe: Corn and Avocado Salad from Ina Garten

Pair with: Tiberio Pecorino ($21)

Sweet corn and creamy avocados with a squeeze of fresh lime for all your summer cravings! We’re pairing this go-to salad with Tiberio Pecorino, a slightly savory white wine from the Abruzzo hills by the Adriatic sea. Cool winds and that seaside saltiness makes this wine perfect for sunny weather lunches with a big bowl of this crunchy, sweet, and zesty salad. The winemakers behind Tiberio have replaced their international varieties with only indigenous traditional varieties. One of those varieties, Pecorino gets its name from the local sheep that enjoy snacking on these grapes more than other varieties when they graze around the local vineyards.

Pair with: Thee and Thou Suenas Conmigo Tempranillo Blend Lodi 2014 ($18)

John Donahue is one of our local faves (as both an innovative winemaker and a loveable human). His small production wines are never predictable but always a whole lotta fun to drink. For this caponata recipe, the eggplant can use a delicate but flavorful wine like this Tempranillo blend. It’s not quite as oaky or aged as Tempranillo from Rioja, but rather a lighter and juicier expression. Carbonic maceration is technique used to create a wine with lighter tannins and fruitier flavors. This bottle makes for an easy transition from appetizers to main course as you snack on caponata with fresh chewy bread.
