Recipe: Pesto Potato Salad from Saveur

Pair with: Charles Sparr Pinot Gris Alsace 2013 ($20)

Potato salad in the morning, potato salad in the evening, potato salad all day long, all summer long... Whenever there's a picnic or barbecue, you're almost sure to make your way over with this staple. And more often than not, it's covered in rich sour cream and mayo, which can be a bit boring. But for a change of pace, we're going with pesto!

For the wine, we're sticking to the Sparr family's Alsatian Pinot Gris. You'll find that this 9th generation of winemakers do an amazing job making a refreshing Pinot Gris perfect for summer. 

Recipe: Roast Duck with Plums from Saveur 

Pair with: Wind Gap Soif Old-Vine Red North Coast 2015 ($28)

Pax Mahle's got a talent for making cool climate wines despite living in sunny California. Wind Gap Soif is a blend of old-vine grapes selected for their tartness. After undergoing carbonic maceration, a slower fermentation that occurs without grapes getting crushed, the wine ends up aromatic, fresh, and vibrant with red fruit, not dissimilar to some elegant Beaujolais. You can serve it as is or slightly chilled down with your gamey roast duck and a side of roasted plums.
