CSA Box Pairings: November 19, 2015

Brrrrr… When it’s cold out, bust out those fragrant spices and start warming up the kitchen. We’re on a Fall spice kick, and you can join us...

Recipe: Roasted Carrot Salad Peanut Sesame Mole Recipe from Serious Eats

Pair with: Eight Sides Zinfandel 2014 ($18)

Start a meal with spiced, roasted carrots in a creamy mole sauce! We picked this recipe to complement our love of crunchy leaves and cozy sweaters. It just so happens we have the perfect match in wine form. Eight Sides Zinfandel is juicy and warming without the heavy laziness of fruit-gone-too-far that's often common in California Zins. The mastermind behind this balanced wine is Grant Ebert, who graduated CalPoly in San Luis Opisbo and immediately began working at wineries in Edna Valley as soon as he turned 21. Nowadays, he specializes in crafting balanced wines that pair perfectly with food. This wine along with the spices of the carrot salad and the creaminess of the mole sauce are a match made in Autumnal heaven.

Recipe: Cauliflower Soup with Coconut and Chilies from Food and Wine

Pair with: Zind Humbrect Gewurztraminer Alsace 2013 ($26)

Just because you can’t get enough sunshine in these short days doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in tropical fruit flavors and warm wishes. When you make this coconut curried cauliflower soup, your kitchen will fill up with delicious smells and warm spicy goodness. To refresh your palate and play with those heady aromas, sip on Zind Humbrect’s Alsatian Gewurztraminer. The grape is known for its intensely perfumed lychee, rose and tropical aromatics. Appropriately enough, it grows happily in one of the sunnier parts of France in Alsace. There, grapes don’t suffer through heavy winds and rain because the Vosges Mountains keep this pocket of sunshine happy. Zind Humbrect knows what they’re doing, too. They’ve been making wine since 1620! Throw on some warm socks and get cooking!
