Justin Willett of Tyler Wines is Coming!

We fell for the Tyler wines even before we met Justin Willett. Label called Tyler, we figured dude's name must be, well... Tyler. 

It's not. It's Justin Willett! And under his Tyler label, Justin is making some of the best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir not just in Santa Barbara, not just in California, but maybe in the entire world. 

Eventually we did meet Justin, and he's as lovely as his wines. We're super excited to welcome him in tonight as he pours two of his stunners: Santa Barbara County Chardonnay and Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir!

Recipe: Roasted Green Bean, Red Onion and Beet Salad from Bon Appétit

Pair with: Tyler Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2013 ($45)

There are three main flavor elements at play in this salad: a slight herbal note from the green beans, tangy sweetness in the onions and soft earthiness in the beets. Justin's Pinot Noir hits all those notes as well with sunny berry fruit yet lots of fresh acidity and just the slightest undercurrent of earth and fresh herbs. 

Recipe: Braised Pork with Fuyu Persimmons from Epicurious

Pair with: Tyler Santa Barbara County Chardonnay 2013 ($36)

This dish has a lot of richness from all the melted, fatty pork goodness, yet it's brightened up with the sweet persimmons and spices. We want something mouth-filling and succulent yet still refreshing to pair with it, and Santa Barbara County Chardonnay hits the nail on the head since it marries body and weight with a fresh whisk of tart, apple-y acidity and none of that creaminess or spiciness that can weigh down Cali Chardonnays.
