CSA Box Pairings: July 2, 2015
Happy Independence Day weekend!! We hope these freshies keep you refreshed. Don't shoot your eye out or explode your hands this weekend, and don't forget to hydrate!
Pair with: Setzer Grüner Veltliner Austria 2014 ($16)
Peering over their peers in the neighboring Kamptal and Wagram regions, Setzer sits up around 400 meters above sea level in the Weinviertel DAC of Austria. Here, they make clean, crisp and classic Grüner Veltliner that shows off all the refreshing, slight spritzy-ness that makes this grape a summer go-to. The white pepper and white peach notes obviously highlight those in the salad, and a crown cap closure (like those used for beer) makes this no fuss, no muss summer holiday perfection.
Pair with: Lioco Indica Rosé Mendocino 2014 ($21)
Insider tip: Matt Licklider of Lioco just got married! He's just about the sweetest guy and married one of the nicest girls you'll ever meet. You can bet they drank a lot of this rosé in celebration. Apparently named after a marijuana strain, this rosé is made from the Carignan grape and shows of red berry and melon fruit but definitely contains no THC. Still, paired with a summery grilled fruit salad, we can guarantee it'll make you feel groovy.
