Beer Class Taught by Sayre Piotrkowski Featuring Ol' Republic Brews!
We are SO excited to have THE Beer Dude of the East Bay, Sayre Piotrkowski, in to teach Sunday School this coming Sunday, June 14. He'll be guiding us through the stellar beers of Ol' Republic Brewery--if you don't yet know these beers, you should. Ol’ Republic Brewery opened its doors in February 2012 in the historic mining town of Nevada City, a town made famous by the 1849 Gold Rush. Brewers Jim Harte and Simon Olney have always been fascinated with old-world beer styles--specifically, classic European lagers and robust ales from the British Isles. Their beers are all naturally carbonated, remarkably well-balanced and some of the most compelling examples across a range of styles that we've tasted in the last year.
Sayre will be introducing the brewery as we taste the following Ol' Republic beers:
"Dead Canary" Dortmund Style Golden Lager
Dortmund Style Lager is the third (and all-but-forgotten) of three great European Pale Lager styles. The simple explanation of a Dortmunder Lager would be the malt character of a Munich Helles and the hop character of a classic Pilsener beer. 4.8% ABV, 15 IBUs.
Franconian Schwarzbiers are a dark/black lager style of beer that boasts a great deal of roast and bitter chocolate flavors without ever tasting burnt. 4.6% ABV, 17 IBUs.
"Lucky Joe" English IPA
A stronger than typical iteration of a firmly bitter English IPA. 5.9% ABV, 59 IBUs."Royal Red" Imperial Irish Red Ale
