CSA Box Pairings: May 21, 2015

Time is of the essence today with a big weekend ahead! 

Recipe: Portuguese Seafood Stew

Pair with: Sottimano Bric del Salto Dolcetto d'Alba 2013 ($23)

Yes, Dolcetto (which means "little sweet one" but is never made sweet--only dry) pairs with just about everything. But there's something especially warming and pleasing about this rich purpley-colored but softly juicy Piemontese red alongside a rich, warming seafood stew. Its low tannins mean it doesn't clash with the bit of spice nor the fish oil in the soup, and its softer acidity makes it especially chuggable and supple. 

Recipe: Braised Duck Legs with Mustard Greens and Bok Choy 

Pair with: Ryme Cabernet Franc Russian River Valley 2013 ($32)

RYan + MEgan Glaab (get it?! Ryme?!) are the cutest husband and wife who make incredibly delectable wine up in Sonoma. This Cab Franc of theirs takes the little bit of herbal-peppery spice that the grape is known for and mashes it up against the ripe, supple, red and black fruits that made Russian River Valley famous for wine. It's drop-dead amazing with the herbal-peppery spice of the bok choy and Asian spices while the richness of fruit envelops the duck fatty goodness.
