CSA Box Pairings: March 26, 2015

Guess what we got in our boxes this week??? MORE ASPARAGUS as well as fennel, arugula and strawberries, hells yes. Huzzah, spring! We're excited to be chowing down this week on the below fennel, arugula and orange salad from Aunt Martha (Martha Stewart, that is) and asparagus-prosciutto pasta from Sunset magazine. Oh, and may we recommend amping up our salad with heavenly chunks of creamy avocado, because we live in California where these delicacies exist, and because we can. Boom. 

Recipe: Fennel and Arugula Salad with Oranges from Martha Stewart Living

Pair with: Ransom Pinot Gris Eola-Amity Hills Oregon 2013 ($21)

This Pinot Gris from Oregon is all about pears, clover blossom and meyer lemon lusciousness. The Ransom vineyard is family-owned and family-farmed as well as certified organic--sounds like we hit the trifecta, hey? We love the way this wine is rich and juicy with a round body even while it's jumping with vibrant acidity, just like our spring salad.


Recipe: Asparagus and Prosciutto Pasta from Sunset magazine

Pair with: Le Fraghe Bardolino 2013 ($15)

Ooooh! Ahh yeah fresh supreme! That sentiment just about sums up this juicy, light-bodied red from Bardolino in the Veneto, often thought of as Italy's answer to Beaujolais. The area specializes in gulpable blends from the local Corvina and Rondinella grapes; the latter brings a playful character and herbaceous freshness (to go with the asparagus notes) while the former grape dishes out luscious red and blue fruits (which match up with the salty prosciutto). Easy-going tannins provide an elegant structure in between the tart acidity and savory flavors. Le Fraghe is made by a female, organic winemaker to boot.
